Janet Louise Grimstead Simons, born March 16, 1948, to the late William Louis Grimstead and Eva Iris Waterfield, went to be with our Lord on December 29, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Clyde William Simons, Sr. in 2013; and her brother, W. Allen Grimstead.
Janet retired from the City of Virginia Beach – working in both the Social Services and Economic Development Departments.
She is survived by her beloved son, Bill; daughter-in-law, Terri; and cherished grandson, Nicholas William; nieces, Sarah, Rebekah and Rachel; nephews, Chris and Tim; their spouses; eleven grandnieces and grandnephews; a cousin-sister, Beverley; and other special cousins and friends.
Janet was a country girl at heart and loved all things nature – especially flowers, trees, green grass and the sky – blue sky and night sky. She loved her Lord, faith community at Charity United Methodist Church and beyond – leaving behind deep relationships with Emmaus sisters and brothers. Several of Janet’s favorite things include: the family log cabin, calm waters, clothes hanging outside in the sun, wind chimes, and natural wood. Janet also enjoyed reading, walking, and solitude; trying always to live a life of faith, service and love. She authored a book which was published after her husband’s (Billy) death: “A Single Tear: Faith and Alzheimer’s,” in part to share this faith and to help families struggling with the disease. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
Memorial donations may be made to Charity UMC Food Pantry, 4080 Charity Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457, or a charity of your choice.
