Jawan Taki Johnson was born October 8, 2002 in Virginia Beach, VA to his parents Deshawn Jonah Randolph Johnson Sr. and Erin Dashera Leftridge. Jawan passed away tragically and unexpectedly on May 31, 2022 at 9:15pm. It is incredibly hard to put into words how much he will be missed by his parents and his six siblings. He loved each and everyone of them and they cherished him.
Jawan was the epitome of a loving son, who loved and protected his family and friends, a great athlete in any sport he put his mind to, and great at being a musician. He was an amazing young man, passionate about his future, selfless friend, loving son, an awesome big brother, nephew, and cousin. Anyone who knew Jawan, knew they had a friend for life and not only a friend but a protector.
He touched the lives of countless children in our community by volunteering with nonprofits, training and working out with local athletes, his brothers, and his cousins.
Jawan would of been graduating from Salem High School June 17, 2022. His family will receive his diploma in his honor.
He played football and was a great athlete for VB Steelers, VB Red Raiders, VB Raiders, Seatack Seahawks, VB Calivers, Landstown Middle, VB Crusaders, Salem Middle, Mach-1, Salem High School, Bishop Sullivan-Catholic High School and multiple 7v7 teams. He was also a champion wrestler and ran track as well. He was a great at any and all sports he participated in.
Jawan will light up a room with his smile, he was well loved by family and friends. He knew how to connect to kids of all ages. The young kids loved him he connected with them very well. We are all grateful for the positive impact he had on us and our community.
Jawan Taki Johnson was preceded in death by his grandparents, Starley Palmer (Margaret) and Ernest Leftridge.
