Jean Elizabeth Elliott, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away on January 28, 2026, surrounded by love and cherished memories. Her life was a beautiful testament to resilience, generosity, and the power of family.
Born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Jean was the youngest of 22 children. At an early age, she learned the value of perseverance and community. As a young teenager, she moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she built her life and legacy. Jean was married for 10 years and became a single mother at 28. With unwavering strength and determination, she raised her four children while working as a cook, providing not only meals but love, stability, and encouragement. Her dedication and sacrifice shaped generations. Jean had a deep love for music and always kept it playing in the background of her home. Whether she was crafting, decorating, or preparing meals, music was her constant companion. She found joy in creating warm, welcoming spaces filled with laughter and love and, of course, music.
Thanksgiving held a special place in her heart, for it allowed her the opportunity to cook and gather her loved ones, but Christmas was her favorite holiday. She delighted in feeding others, giving generously, and sharing the spirit of the season. Her joy came from seeing others happy. Some of Jean’s most treasured moments were spent sitting with her sisters, laughing, joking, sharing stories, and exchanging gifts. These simple, heartfelt moments reflected her appreciation for love, companionship, and togetherness. Jean will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, her joyful spirit, and her unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured and the lives she touched. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory and carry forward her love.
She was the proud mother of four children. Jacqueline Moses (David), Roderick Elliott (Iris), Valeria Elliott, and La Shon Elliott, grandmother to five grandchildren, La Shon Elliott Jr., Langston Elliott, Leah Elliott, Deonna Gibson, and David Moses 11, and great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren, Kobe Elliott, Skylar Elliott, Amara Caicedo, Alaya Elliott, Kingston Elliott, Khloe Elliott, Crue Elliott, Kylan Elliott, Amia Elliott, and Michael Gibson 111. Surviving brother Josphe Benny Griffin. Her love for her family knew no limits, and she poured her heart into every role she held. May her soul rest in peace, and may her story continue to inspire all who knew her.
