Jeffrey Joyner Obituary

Jeffrey Augusta Joyner was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia (formerly Princess Anne County) to the late Mary Etta Cross Joyner and Arthur Joyner. He was raised in the Burton Station community.

Jeffrey graduated from Bayside High School in 1977 and attended the Virginia Beach vocational school, where he began his career as a brick mason. Through the years, Jeff worked for various companies including J & J Masonry where he was the entrepreneur.

Jeffrey joined Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age, where he accept Jesus Christ as his Savior. Also, a member of the Sunday School union that held recitals of bible verses. He was awarded banners for numerous recitals.

The United House of Prayer became a source of inspiration and worship through song, sermons, and the band. As the family connection.

Jeffrey had great love for his family and friends. He showed great love and care to his friends during his illness. His other love was for the Burton Station Reunion and participated to ensure everything went right. He was affectionately called the “mayor”. A complex man with a compassionate heart for the elderly especially St. Doris Blount (cousin).

The last years was plagued with health issues, but his personality remained the same. He will be deeply missed.

Jeff was preceded in death by, his parents, Arthur & Mary Etta Joyner; paternal grandparents, Abraham & Eva Joyner; maternal grandparents, Virginia Cross Wills & George Cross; adopted parents, Ida & Fred Garvin; great great aunt & uncle; brothers, Arthur Joyner,, Jr., Earnest Joyner, Sr., Abraham Joyner; two nieces, Adienne Burgest and Brandy Baker.

Jeffrey leaves behind to cherish his memories, two brothers, Michael Joyner (Virginia) of Portsmouth, Herman Babb of Easton, PA; one sister, Marinda Joyner; one aunt, Cora Goodman; brother/cousin, Alphonso Cross; sister/cousin, Sylvia McClair (Kevin); one son; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
