John William Glascoe peacefully passed away in the presence of family on April 23, 2026, at the age of 82 after an extended illness. Born on December 29, 1943, in Culpeper County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Linwood Glascoe and Maude Hackley Glascoe.
John completed his education at George Washington Carver Regional High School in Culpeper, Virginia, and George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He went on to serve in the armed forces and retired from the United States Navy after dedicating many years of his life to the service of his country. He traveled the world for numerous domestic and international deployments, including serving during the Vietnam War. John rarely left home without wearing one of his favorite baseball caps that clearly identified him as veteran of the U.S. Navy, allowing him to show his pride for his service and to easily connect with other veterans and their families that he encountered on a day-to-day basis.
Although he traveled extensively during his tenure in the service, you could take the man out of the country but couldn’t take the country out of the man. John had a passion for the outdoors and was an was an avid lover of horses. He developed a passion for horses as a young man in northern Virginia and went on to devote much of his free time to owning, training and caring for horses. John also enjoyed watching sports, participating in outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends.
John was predeceased by his parents, and beloved siblings Marilyn Glascoe-Sims, Katie Glascoe, Dorothy Glascoe and Linwood “L.T.” Glascoe. He is survived by his wife, M. Grace Glascoe, daughters Katrina Glascoe and Jonna Turner, grandchildren Jadyn Turner and Calvin “Trey” Turner III, and his cherished family and friends.
