It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jonathan Lane White, a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend, who left us on November 16, 2025, at the age of 43. Born on December 26, 1981, in Norfolk, Virginia, Jonathan was a blessing to his parents Kaye Diggs-White & Jimmie White, and a bright light in the lives of all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Bayside High School, Jon excelled on the football field, demonstrating not only talent but leadership and integrity. He went on to study at Hampton University, where he continued to grow academically and personally. His love for football endured throughout his life, ultimately leading him back to Bayside as “Coach White,” where he found his true calling in guiding and inspiring young athletes as both the Head Football Coach and an Educator.
Jon was deeply committed to service, education, and community. As a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Lambda Chapter, he embraced and embodied the fraternity’s values of scholarship, fellowship, and service. Whether on the field, in the classroom, or in the community, he devoted himself fully to uplifting others.
Jon shared a lifelong love with his wife, Shameia Rogers, a bond that began in the second grade and blossomed into a beautiful marriage. Together they raised two sons, Aric and Tory, who were his pride and joy. He also cherished his nieces, Kolby & Amaya, and nephews, Jaquan, TJ, & Ayden, pouring into them the same love and guidance he offered so many. He is survived by his parents, Kaye and Jimmie (Vickie); his wife, Shameia; his sons, Aric and Tory; his sisters, Jennifer and Jenelle; his aunts, including Benita Harrison-Diggs, Esther Gary, and Frankie White-Parsons; his mother-in-law, Connie; father-in-law, Phil; sister-in-law, Angel (Thomas); and a host of extended family, friends, and brothers gained along the way.
Known for his humor, generosity, and unwavering positivity, Jonathan had an extraordinary gift for uplifting others. His presence brought laughter, comfort, and wisdom, and his impact on his community will be felt for generations. He leaves behind a legacy defined by love, leadership, and a genuine dedication to making a difference.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Bayside High School community, Virginia Beach City Public Schools, and the Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. for their steadfast support during this difficult time.
Coach White will be deeply missed but forever remembered. His light continues to shine in the hearts of all who loved him.
May his memory be a blessing
