Joseph Hawthorne Obituary

A Life Well Lived - A Legacy Remembered

Joseph “Joe” Hawthorne was born on June 17, 1983 to Sophia and Robert Hawthorne (deceased) in South Hill, Mecklenburg, VA. From the very beginning, Joe brought warmth, laughter, and a vibrant spirit to everyone around him.

On August 9, 2015, after 10 years of companionship, Joseph married the love of his life, Sabirah Collins. Their joy grew even greater on July 27, 2019, with the birth of their beloved daughter, Jodi Kamryn Hawthorne, who was truly the apple of his eye and the center of his world.

Joe graduated from First Colonial High School where he proudly played offensive lineman on the high school football team. A devoted sports fan, he cheered faithfully for the San Francisco 49ers and the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team. Known to some as Joe Kanonz, he was a rapper, prankster and friend.

Joe had a gift for bringing people together. He loved cooking, was known as a true grill master, and could impress family and friends with his mixology skills. He enthusiastically coached youth football, sharing not only his love of the game but also his encouragement, pride, and dedication. Joe also enjoyed video gaming and had a special appreciation for BMW cars. More than anything, he treasured the time spent with family and friends, creating memories filled with laughter, love and joy.

Joseph Hawthorne peacefully departed this life on Monday May 18, 2026 following an extended illness. In addition to his father, Joseph was preceded in death by grandmother, Althea Thrower.

Joseph leaves to cherish his precious memory: grandfather, Arthur Troxler, brother Jerard Troxler (Jen), mother-in-law, Shirley Lowery, father-in-law Clifford Collins (Cris), special cousin Alonzo Lowery, many other beloved cousins, friends turned brothers Earnest Wilson and Aran Benjamin, a host of loving family members and dear friends whose lives were blessed by knowing him.
