In Remembrance and Celebration of Laura Alice Hines. A Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister & Friend.
Mom was born in Chapel Hill, NC to Herman Sr. & Viola Herbert. Her keen eye for fashion, made her a “Fashionista”. She loved her jewelry, pretty hats and matching handbags always with a ten-dollar bill inside. If there was something she liked, she would buy it in every color. Our house was always laid out because cleanliness was her top priority. It was truly impossible to do anything until her house was clean and in order.
Mom was a longtime faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Va. Beach, VA under the leadership of the late Reverend Brown where she was a member of the Usher Board. After church, she would make her rounds to visit us with a coke in her hand after she visited her favorite place, Wendy’s. Mom also was an active member of the Red Hat Society.
In her spare time, you could also catch her watching soap operas, in other words, “Her Stories”. She wouldn’t even answer the phone when they were on. Mom was affectionally known by her brothers and sisters as “Jip”. She loved her family and hated that she didn’t get to see them as often as she liked. She found joy in talking to them over the phone. Mom had a way of bringing joy every time she walked into a room. She had an unforgettable smile, with gleaming gold teeth.
Besides her parents, Laura A. Hines, was predeceased by her siblings, Edward Herbert, Georgia Whitted, Bobby Herbert, Doris Headan, Thelma Mitchell, Sarah Womack, and Larry D. Herbert.
