On November 17, 1951, Laverne Olivia was born to Kathryn E. Vaughan. She was born to a village of family and friends in Princess Anne County, Virginia where she was raised by Kathryn and stepfather, Otis Melvin.
Laverne attended Union Kempsville where she met Dennison W. Perry, Jr. They married on January 28, 1967 and began their family. Laverne worked and learned to master the profession of a dietitian. She worked over 40 years providing meals to students at Virginia Wesleyan College and patients at The Pines and Kempsville Behavior Center until retirement in 2018.
She possessed a loving, giving, and forgiving spirit. Laverne loved her family and valued her friends. She traded in her physical limitation and pain for a set of wings on January 26, 2022.
Laverne is predeceased in death by her mother, Kathryn Vaughan, stepfather Otis Melvin and brother DeMorris Vaughan.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her husband Dennison Perry, Jr.; daughter Angela Davis (Kenneth) and son Kevin Perry (Tracie) of Virginia Beach; three sisters Gwendolyn Self (Kevin) of Virginia Beach, VA, Sharon Vaughan of Chesapeake, VA and Hollis Stringfield (Anthony) of Chesapeake, VA; four brothers Lemuel Kinney (Kaltrina) of McDonough, GA, Leonard Vaughan (Julie) and Eric Vaughan of Virginia Beach, VA and Jeffrey Vaughan of Wilmington, DE; two aunts Eleanor Allen of Brooklyn, NY, and Jaqueline Boone of Virginia Beach, VA; one uncle, Leroy Boone (Evone) of Virginia Beach, VA; two granddaughters Dabeon Davis of Virginia Beach, VA and Kaila Perry of Portsmouth, VA; two grandsons Kenneth Davis, Jr. and Nathaniel Perry of Virginia Beach, VA and two great-grandchildren Kamilla Riddick and Medicus Riddick, IV of Portsmouth, VA; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
