Mr. Leander Corprew Jr., 83, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on June 1, 2021.
He was born November 5, 1937, in Princess Anne County, VA (now Virginia Beach). Mr. Corprew was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha Williams Corprew and Leander Corprew, Sr. and his sister, Mattie Corprew Scott, of Virginia Beach, VA.
Mr. Corprew attended Princess Anne County Training School (later, Union Kempsville High School). He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at Piney Grove Baptist Church. Later in life he became a member of Union Baptist Church where he served faithfully as Chairman of the Deacon Board until the onset of declining health.
Mr. Corprew was united in Holy Matrimony to Estelle Braye and they were blessed to raise four children, Stephanie Anne, Beryl Jean, Michael Anthony and Patrick Randall. They also extended their love and total adoration to their three grandchildren, Shawnon Whitney, Tia Nicole and Michael Anthony, Jr. The Corprew home was always filled with love, laughter, family fun, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws, family friends, and the Corprew children’s friends.
Mr. Corprew was a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1248 for 32 years. He was employed as a Dock Foreman and a Dock Header until his retirement in 1995.
“Lee”, “Daddy”, “Grand Pa”, and “Daddy Wee” as he was affectionately called by his extended family, loved life and was always trying to bring joy to the lives of others. He loved family gatherings, traveling, baseball and watching wrestling and “western” shows on TV. Holidays, visitors and good food also brought him great joy.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 63 years, Estelle B. Corprew; two devoted daughters, Stephanie Peebles (Roosevelt) of Nashville, TN, Beryl Corprew Poster of Virginia Beach, VA; two devoted sons, Michael A. Corprew, Sr. (Tracey) of Chesapeake, VA, Patrick R. Corprew of Portsmouth, VA; two loving granddaughters, Shawnon W. Corprew, Tia N. Corprew of Virginia Beach, VA and a loving grandson, Michael A. Corprew, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA.
The family wishes to extend loving thanks to Mr. Corprew’s caregivers led by his longtime caregiver, Shalanda Fenner. We also thank extended family, Joyce and Al Williams; grand-godchildren, Andrea Williams Thomas (Kenneth), and Derrick J. Williams; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the numerous very special Union Baptist Church families.
