Maria Cannonier Obituary

Maria Elizabeth George Cannonier , aged 80, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on October 29, 1945, in the Bronx, New York, to parents Ferdinand Augustas George and Clarita Jensena George.

Maria lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering love for her family and community. At the age of 18, Maria embarked on a remarkable career in nursing through a military program offered to civilians. This opportunity marked the beginning of nearly five decades of service to others. Her work as a nurse took her to California and New York, where she became known for her boundless compassion and steadfast commitment to her patients. Maria’s career was not just a profession but a calling that touched countless lives. She retired after almost 50 years of selfless dedication, leaving behind a legacy of care and kindness.

Maria was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who cherished her family above all else. She is survived by her three loving children: Kane Cannonier, Latricia Cannonier, and Tandra Cannonier. She was a proud grandmother to Latricia's daughters, Tanise Talmadge, and Ebony Jones, as well as Tandra's daughter, Noelle Canne Cannonier. Maria also found immense joy in being a great-grandmother to Tanise's daughter, Olivia Pagan-Talmadge. Her family was the center of her world, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness.

Maria shared a special bond with her siblings: Edna Powell, Linda Toliver, Loretta Jones, Jeannette Jones, Vanessa White, Carolyn Kirkland, and Michael George. She treasured these relationships deeply and held each of them close to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George N. Connonier, and parents, Ferdinand Augustas George, and Clarita Jensena George; her five brothers—Ferdinand George Jr. (affectionately known as Juny), Carlton George, Gilbert George, Edward George, and Gerald George; and her husband, George N. Cannonier. Maria carried their memories with her throughout her life and found comfort in the love they shared.

Maria’s vibrant spirit shone brightly through her many passions. She had an enduring love for music and dancing that brought joy to those around her. She also enjoyed cooking delicious meals for loved ones, shopping for treasures big and small, traveling to new places, and playing games with family and friends. These simple pleasures filled her days with laughter and created cherished memories for all who were fortunate enough to share them with her.

Maria will be remembered for her incredible strength and resilience as well as the deep love she carried in her heart for those around her. Her warmth brightened every room she entered, offering support and comfort whenever it was needed most. Her legacy lives on through the values she instilled in her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter—values of love, kindness, and unwavering support.

Maria’s presence will be deeply missed by all who know her. Her kindness left an indelible mark on the lives she touched, while her strength inspired those around her to persevere through life’s challenges. Though she is no longer with us physically, the memories she created will be treasured forever by those who loved her.

May Maria Elizabeth Cannonier’s memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing and inspire gratitude for the love she so generously shared during her lifetime.
