Martrell was the beloved son born to Debra and Robert Lamar on May 22, 1982. He grew up and was nurtured in the Christian home of Debra and Elwood Freeman, along with his four siblings, Kanisha Harris, Michael Lamar, Adrian Lamar, and Derrick Freeman.
Our treasured Andre (his preferred referenced name) was tragically taken from us through unsuspected circumstances in July 2024; which leaves all who knew him or of him mortified. The shock and pain of his demise leaves a void in the lives of his family, friends and loved ones.
Andre’s life story includes his grandparents, Evelyn Sanders of Texas; grandfather, the late Sandy Sanders; the late Thelma Williams Ball and Robert Ball, Jr.
Andre matriculated through the following educational institutions, Frankfort Elementary School, Germany, Princess Anne Elementary and Middle Schools, Virginia Beach and Floyd E. Kellam High School, Virginia Beach.
He also attended T.T.C. for an abbreviated period of time. Andre’s cultural and educational experiences in Germany during his families’ military tenure prepared him for appreciating diverse humanity. It broadened his concept of love and acceptance for all mankind. Andre was a real “people person’. He whole heartedly enjoyed watching football and his favorite pastime was engaging in grand mastering video games. Andre was an articulate debater with his family; he especially enjoyed the thrill of rivaling his siblings in debate in addition to having spirited conversations on the issues of life with his parents, Debra and Pop Elwood. Family love was his calling card and personality trademark.
Andre leaves cherish his fond memories, his parents, Debra and Elwood Freeman and Robert Lamar; sister, Kanisha Harris; brothers, Michael Lamar, Adrian Lamar (Jennifer), Derrick Freeman (Erin); aunts and uncles, Jacquelyn Valdez (Elio), Valorie Ball, Robert Ball (Lydia), Bernard Ball, William Ball, Timothy Ball (Dena), Bella Ball, David Ball (Aleta), Cheryl Harris (Michael), Linda Ingraham (George), Fay Godwin, Sonya Hampton, Holley Hampton (Jackie), Junior Hampton (Michelle); nieces and nephews, Maliek Baker, Markes Baker, Jada Harrison, D’antay Carlson, Devin Lamar, Kali Lamar, Elijah Lamar, Edith and Dexton Freeman; a host of cousins and special friends from both family lines, including those from Florida, Virginia and North Carolina; a circle of special friends, Anita Broom, Katie Thompson, Ronnie Winbish and James Huggin.
There are so many precious memories in our hearts about this extra special guy. There will forever remain photogenic snapshots that scroll through our minds to remind us of his special presence. Our hearts will hold him close until our own eternity.
Rest well, our beloved, Andre… Love Never Ends
