Mary Frances Diggs affectionately known as “Mert” was born on October 10, 1949 to Henry & Parthenia Watson in Pasquotank County, North Carolina. She was called to heaven on October 19, 2020 after a short battle with cancer. She attended Union Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach and later Mansfield School of Business receiving her Pharmacy technician certification. She continued her higher education at TCC where she received her Associate degree for nursing. She worked at Virginia Beach Health Care as a LPN (10 years) while also holding a custodian position with the Virginia Beach School system for 34 years. She spent much of her time enjoying her family and helping others who were in need. She was always giving from her heart whether it was a meal or simply helping financially. You could always find her planting flowers in her garden, shopping or planning for a getaway. After retirement, she enjoyed babysitting her grandkids and great nieces/nephews spoiling them to no ends. She, along with her sister Hattie, join the Bow Creek Recreation Center where they would push one another to workout weekly with their retirement friends.
Her home was the home where everyone always wanted to visit. It was full of laughter, fun and food. No one ever left hunger after a cookout at her home. You could even come back the next day for leftovers. Sunday afternoons was always a time for watching football in the fall. She loved her Cowboys even when they lost. Her home church was First Lynnhaven Baptist Church.
In her early teen years, she meet John Diggs Jr. who she married and they remained together for over 50 years. To this union they were blessed with five children: Timothy Diggs of Philadelphia, Debbie Dennison (Ronald), Anthony Diggs, Valerie Williams (Darrell) and Christopher Diggs all of Virginia Beach.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her five children, 12 grandchildren; Michelle Dorsey, Timothy Diggs Jr., Eric Dennison, Aaron Dennison, Ahleayah Dennison, Anthonio Diggs, Karina Diggs, Brianna Diggs, Tanisha Williams, Darrell Williams Jr., Niyah Williams, Nasha Byrus; 7 great-grandchildren, one sister, Hattie Diggs (James) of Virginia Beach, an aunt Montrose Hodenett of Portsmouth, and a host of other nieces, nephews, in-laws, family and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents; her siblings, Charles L. Watson, Clara Hassel and Nelson Watson.
