Mary Williams Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Lane-Williams, 76, of Virginia Beach, VA was born on March 23, 1945 as the daughter of the late John Wesley Lane and Rennie Elizabeth Winborne Lane in Ahoskie, North Carolina. She enjoyed life to the fullest extent, being hard working and industrious her entire life.  As she fell asleep in death on Sunday, January 9, 2022 family all gathered around her bed as she took her last breaths. Mary held her family together and was always PRESENT in our lives and will be remembered for her quiet nature, kind heart and a smiling face. Mary’s beautiful and everlasting smile, her warm and friendly conversations were an inspiration to everyone.  She showed genuine love and concerned feelings to everyone she met.

She developed a strong love for Jehovah and his organization and symbolized her dedication by water baptism on June 13, 1987. She loved the Truth and shared her bible-based hope of God’s Kingdom with her family and all those that she came into contact with.  She was a faithful and dedicated servant of Jehovah God and an inspiration to her family, congregation and all who knew her.

Mary worked as a Custodian with Virginia Beach City Public Schools for over 30 years and had excellent work ethics. Her colleagues knew her as a kind soul, always willing to cheer kids up with words of encouragement and hugs. Mary was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She shared her life so willingly with others, the joy she brought us will never end and one day we will be together again.

She was predeceased by: her two sons William A. Lane; Stephen Ward Lane; her daughter Portia Williams-Riddick (James Riddick Sr.); her sisters Lucy Lane, Lois Moore, Bessie Stewart; Kathy Haynes; her brothers Rudolph Lane; Leon Lane; Earnest Lane, Raleigh Lane; Lloyd Lane, her special sister-friend Margie “Ann” Harris-Freeman; and her beloved pet companion Jovi.

She is survived by former husband William Jackson Williams; her daughters both of Virginia Beach, VA Cynthia Williams-Dewalt; Merry Williams-Heard (Colby Sr.); her sons Dr. William Williams (Dr. Angela Williams) of Charlotte, North Carolina; Jackie Williams (Rashawn Hopper Williams) of Charlotte, North Carolina; her grandchildren Stephanie Nicole Woodhouse-Brown (Jerry Brown II) of Virginia Beach, VA; Alonzo Devonte Pablo (Taylor Pablo) of Chesapeake, VA; Connor Jacob Dewalt of Virginia Beach, VA; Dario Wallace of Virginia Beach, VA; Diara Wallace of Virginia Beach, VA; Simone Heard of Virginia Beach, VA, Colby Heard Jr.(Amanda) of Norfolk, VA;, William Jackson Williams of Virginia Beach, VA; Jamie Riddick of Virginia Beach, VA; James Riddick Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA; Jemika Scutchings of Virginia Beach, VA; Jazmin Lane of Virginia Beach, VA; her siblings all of Virginia Beach, VA Joyce Rouse, Sylvia White, and Kay Haynes; her sisters-in law Shirley Conley, Audrey Cornick and Evelyn Lane; her brother-in-law, Rueben Williams (Jackie); her special and faithful sister-in-law - love Jeannette Lassiter (James); her beloved grand dog Fudge; special family: Brian, Jennifer, Connor, Haley, Harper Kate and Jan Holland; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.
