Matthew Jon Blankenship 55, of Virginia Beach, departed this life on June 27, 2021. He was born June 17, 1966 at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, Michigan to the late Pete and Helen Blankenship both of Flint, Michigan.
Matthew was a high school graduate that decided to further his education by attending college. Soon after, he enlisted into the United States Navy. While serving he was granted the rank of FC2-Pay Grade E5; and received several accolades, including; National Defense Service Medal, good conduct and USCG Special Ops service medal. After serving six years in the military he secured an Electrical Apprenticeship/Journeyman position with Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, Inc. Matthew was an outstanding laborer and was elevated to the position of Electrical Foreman Supervisor with Central Radio, Inc.
Matthew’s hobbies included biking, flying kites, gaming, reading, letterboxing and listening to Rockabilly/Bluegrass music.
Matthew was predeceased by his parents; niece, Megan Geer; mother-in-law, Diane L. Barton Worden.
Matthew leaves to cherish his fond memories his loving wife, Lisa Ann Worden; children, Kassandra Blankenship of Henrico, VA, Stephen P. Blankenship of Virginia Beach, VA, Rebekah L. Blankenship of Leesville, SC; sisters, Mary (AL) Pomerant of Aurora, IL, Betsy (Dennis) Camp of North Ft. Meyers, FL, Ann (Duke) Stowe of Pinedale, WY, Ginny (John) Hultquist of Davison, MI; brothers, Peter (Verna) Blankenship of Lincoln, NE, Bill (Patty) Blankenship of Wocester, MA; father-in-law, Gary L. Worden, Sr. of Leesville, SC; brother-in-law, Gary L. Worden, Jr., and a host of many nieces and nephews.
An Informal Gathering will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 5:00PM at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel, 1900 Pavilion Drive Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
