Mauricel Y. Riddick Gregory, was born to the late Elder Maurice and Blanche Riddick on August 26, 1943 in Princess Anne County, Virginia Beach, VA. She went home to be with the Lord on August 1, 2019.
Mauricel was a 1960 graduate of the Princess Anne Country Training School/Union Kempsville. Furthering her education, she attended Norfolk State University and received a BS in Accounting in 1987. Mauricel retired from Verzion with 26 years of service. Later on, she was employed with Jackson Hewitt Tax Service and held a position as a substitute teacher from January 2008 to 2013 for Chesapeake Public Schools. In her spare time, Mauricel was a member of the Virginia Mass Choir from its inception until its demise. She also was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA under the leadership of Pastor E. T. Knight. She sung in the choir, was a Sunday school teacher and a Discipleship Evangelism Instructor. After her husband, Mellie Gregory, Jr. passed away Mauricel moved back to Virginia Beach and attended Rehoboth Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Henry Poole.
Besides her parents, Mauricel was predeceased by her husband, Mellie Gregory, Jr. and aunt, Ruby Norwood.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Tonya Riddick “Cocoa Butter”; grandson, Bakari Butler (Quebeneka); great granddaughter, Leilani Lariah Butler; two brothers, Dwight Riddick, Rodger Riddick (Marilyn Jean); four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law; one step-daughter; three step-sons; eight nieces and nephews; one aunts, Evelyn Rhoett and a host of cousins and friends.
