Millie Hill Obituary

As we celebrate the gift of life, we rejoice knowing there is a new beginning, a new dawn for the spirit of believers. On April 16, 2022 Millie fulfilled II Corinthian 5:8. She is absent from the
physical body and is now present with the Lord. Millie Ellen Moore was born November 27, 1948 to the proud parents of Edd and Rosie (Smith) Moore in Ashland, Louisiana. She is the 8th child of 10 siblings. As the baby girl of the family, Millie had the special love, attention and affection of her paternal grandmother. She treasured this relationship throughout her life. Millie was the namesake of two incredibly strong and inspirational women. Millie shared the name and strength of both her grandmothers, Millie Moore and Millie Smith.

Millie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, Texas and attended Texas Southern University in Houston. Millie was creative with a talent for singing and dance.
She worked in retail most of her career. She managed a jewelry store for several years and retired early from Piercing Pagoda Jewelry where she was known for her passion for style and
people. Millie fell in love with and married the man of her dreams, Harrie Hill, on March 15,1979. They were truly soul mates—inseparable. They met in church and continued to serve God by singing together in their home church and at the request of others. In 2001, Millie and Harrie moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia to be near her only child, Jennifer Sylvia, and grandsons. Millie beamed with pride when she talked about her beloved daughter’s military career and world travels. As their family expanded, she experienced the joy of being a
grandmother. Her grandsons were the love of her life. Her son-in-law, Stan, was truly the son she never had. Once he earned her confidence, he was an advisor and friend. Millie wore different hats for many different people. She was a mother, sister, aunt, friend and counselor to those in her social circle and community. Millie liked being actively involved in the
daily lives of her loved ones. She was excited to share praiseworthy reports. She always encouraged and rallied for the support of family and friends who had suffered loss or had a
need. Faith and family defined her life.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Ray Harold Moore, Gracie Bradley, Harry Lee Moore; and adopted brother Arthur Afford.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband Harrie Hill; daughter, Jennifer; 2 grandsons, Marcus and Mason; 2 brothers, Melvin Rolton Moore (Muriel Evelyn) and Alton Moore (Cynthia); 2 sisters, Ethel MIles and Georgia Jenkins (Jimmy); brother-in-law, John Hill; 3 sisters-in-law, Shirley Owens, Dorothy Hunter, and Helen Hill; a close and treasured bond with her great-niece, Leticia Thomas; Goddaughter, Venise: and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
