Milton L. Sumner

On Sunday, November 20, 2022, our beloved Milton transitioned from this life to eternal rest. Milton was born, one of fourteen children, on December 3, 1953 in Norfolk, VA to the late John & Virginia Sumner.

Milton was educated in the Norfolk public school system and attended Lake Taylor High School. He worked for Norfolk Public Schools for 32 years as a Building Supervisor until he retired in January of 2018. Milton was a hard worker and was a master of maintaining each school under his care. He often talked about his work mentor, Mr. Joseph Hamlin, who he was very fond of. Milton was a member of the Rock Church International, Va. Beach, VA, under the leadership of Bishop Anne Gimenez. He also was a member of New Hope COGIC, Norfolk, VA, under the leadership of Pastor Calvin Durham. Milton’s life was impacted the most by his life mentor, the late Bishop Herman Clark, Sr., New Hope COGIC.

Besides his parents, Milton was predeceased by five siblings.

Milton leaves to cherish his fond memories, his wife of 20 years, Natalie Thompson-Sumner; five children, Brittany A. Sumner, Montez Little, Derrick Little, Leon Bethea, Corey Bethea; three stepchildren; eight siblings; one godson; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Milton loved his wife, children and all his relatives. Milton will be sorely missed.
