Margie Lee Cason, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, entered her eternal rest on Saturday, June 27, 2026. She was born on May 7, 1948, in Princess Anne County, Virginia, to the late William A. Cason and Lucy James Cason, and was lovingly raised by her Aunt Zenobia and Uncle Hawthorne Sawyer.
Margie grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she attended local schools and graduated from Union Kempsville High School. A lifelong learner with a heart for children, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Virginia State University and later obtained a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Antioch University in New York. Margie began her career at Albany Avenue Daycare Center, where her dedication and leadership led to her promotion as Director.
A devoted and faithful member of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, Margie served with grace and enthusiasm across many ministries, including the Stewardess Board, Rachel E. Brown Missionary Society, Superintendent of the Church School, Louise O. Green Carnation Flower Club, and Lay Organization. Her deepest passion was missionary work as she was known for visiting the sick, offering comfort, prayer, and encouragement. She was awarded the honor of “Missionary Warrior”.
Margie’s spirit was warm, welcoming, and tireless. A true social butterfly and persistent go-getter, she championed service projects and fundraising efforts with joy and commitment. Beyond church walls, she was an integral part of her family’s farmer’s market stand, making deliveries with her signature smile and kind words.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Easter Hardy (David), Audrey Harper (Hugh), Delores Olds (Alfred), and Pearline Thoroughgood (John).
Margie leaves to cherish her memories: siblings; William A. Cason Jr. (Edna), Stella Cason, Joe Cason (Lessie), Lucy “Carolyn” Owens (George), Jessica Pole (Charles), Cynthia Lovett (John), Angelo Cason (Sharon), and Dorothy Kingcade (Joseph); along with a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and dear friends.
Margie’s life was a testament to faith, service, and love. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of the many lives she touched.
