January 17, 1947 ~ January 31, 2025 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Mother Joyce Phillips Obituary

On January 31, 2025 at 10:33am my Momma Mother Joyce Ann Knight Phillips went home to be with The Lord. After a battle with Dementia/Alzheimer's and a 5 day stint on hospice, God saw fit to deliver her from this test. Mother Phillips was born on January 17, 1947.

She graduated from Booker T Washington High School in 1965. She attended Norfolk State University. She was employed by the City of Norfolk as an Eligibility Worker For Norfolk Social Services for thirty (30) years.  She retired in October of the year 2000. She also worked for QVC for Five (5) years.  She was married to the late Deacon Russell Phillips, Jr on July 2, 1966., the first Official Marriage conducted by the Late Bishop Wilbert L. Daniels, Sr.At his death they had been married for 33 years.  To their union they were blessed with 2 children; Missionary LeAnn Patrice Phillips and the late Nichelle Lynette Phillips.

She was predeceased by her parents Deacon Oliver and Mother Emma Ferebee; two sisters, Missionary Linda Knight and Deaconess Maxine Knight; her aunt, St. Paul's First Church Mother, Mother Mary Rebecca Taylor. She was a member of The St. Paul Church of God In Christ for over 62 years. Her parents brought her and her siblings to St. Paul after being witnessed to by the late Missionary Minnie Scott who invited them to come and visit. Mother Phillips was 16 years old. Mother Phillips was a secretary, Sunday School teacher, President of the Deaconess Board, Choir member, Member of the Mother's Board, Financial Recording Secretary, and Historian for St. Paul.

She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Missionary LeAnn Phillips; brother, Retired Master Gunnery Sargeant  United States Marine Corp. Richard Lee Knight, Sr.( Daphne); three nephews, Richard Knight, Jr(Natisha) Matthew Knight, Sr.( Francesca) and Kevin Knight, Sr(Whitney); nine great nieces and nephews and one great- great niece on the way; three first cousins, Cynthia Taylor, Clarence Taylor, Sr.( Joan) and Elder William Bailey; her North Carolina, Maryland, Norfolk, Chesapeake cousins; and a host of family and friends. Thank you to the Sentara Hospice for your care and thoughtfulness during this time. A special  thanks to Teresa Cooper CNA service.  A special thanks to Ms. Shetela Cooper and Sis. Felecia Feagin and Missionary Deborah McNeil.
