Nancy Carignan Obituary

Nancy Christina Carignan, 82, passed away peacefully at her home in Norfolk, Virginia, on September 9th, just nine days shy of her 83rd birthday. Born on September 18, 1941, in Boston, Massachusetts. Nancy was the cherished daughter of John and Sarah (McVicar) Hansen. She grew up to be a woman of great strength, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her family and faith. 

A graduate of Granby High School's class of 1960 and Keys Business College with an associate’s degree in business in 1981. Nancy balanced her educational pursuits with her roles as a dedicated housewife, mother of five boys, and a Navy wife for 20 years. Her work at the Norfolk Catholic High School cafeteria was just one aspect of her commitment to service and community.

Nancy's passion for life was evident in her involvement with the Women's organization for Knights of Columbus #3548 Oceanview and her active participation in the Christ the King Catholic Church community. Her interests in dancing, singing, and music brought joy not only to herself but also to those around her. She was the epitome of loving, friendly, and kind,her faith touching the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Nancy's journey through life was marked by her enduring love story with her husband, Andrew R. Carignan, Jr., to whom she was blissfully married for 42 years before his passing. Nancy is also predeceased by her sons, John Allan Carignan, Daniel A. Carignan, granddaughter, Dawn Carignan Campbell and herparents John & Sarah (McVicar) Hansen.

Her memory will be forever held in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Nancy is survived by her loving children, Andrew Carignan III (Debbie) of Norfolk VA, James A.Carignan of Lexington, SC, and Lawrence A. Carignan of Omaha, NE. She was the proud grandmother to Andrew S. Carignan of Norfolk VA, Bobby Ferguson (Valarie) of Cornelia GA, Dr. Stacy Weiner (Jake), Stephanie Ann Carignan MSWACM of Norfolk VA,  Adam Carignan of CA, Jami Carignan (Mina) of Washington, Martha Moore of Chesterfield, VA, Ashley Johns (Garrett) of Myrtle Beach, SC, CPT. James R. Carignan US ARMY, of Loris SC, Sophia Carignan of Lexington,  SC, Diana Carignan of Lexington, SC,  Hailey Carignan (Alex), Brady Carignan, and Cassidy Carignan of Omaha, NE; her great-grandchildren, Robert Hirsch of Norfolk VA, Emma and Piper Whitmore of Norfolk VA, Lyla, Vera, Eleanor, and Bonnie Ferguson Cornelia GA, Kyle and Keaton Weiner of Norfolk, VA, Carter Carignan of California, Abigail Moore of Chesterfield, VA, Darwin and Arthur Johns of Myrtle Beach, SC.

Nancy's siblings, John Hansen, Jr., Karen Platt, Christina Schreukengost, Jane Clifton, Pete Hansen, John Marshall, Donna Zatcoff, Joanne Stralk, Marie Garza, and Kevin Marshall, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends, will fondly remember her loving spirit and friendly nature.

Nancy Christina Carignan's life was a testament to the power of love and faith, the strength of family, and the beauty of friendship. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the memories of her unwavering kindness will remain a comforting presence in our lives. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the incredible impact she made on the world and the countless hearts she touched. Nancy's spirit will live on through the love she shared and the lives she enriched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
