Nora King Obituary

Nora Aggie King was born Aggie Nora Council October 9th, 1938, in Laurinburg North Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of the late Willie Jasper Council and Edith Monroe Council.

She received her early education in the Scottland County School System in Laurinburg, North Carolina. She later moved to Philadelphia where she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Temple University.

Nora Council joined in marriage to Bobby King on February 18, 1966. Widowed in 1976. She was a proud mother of three children Yvette Brown, Carlton King and Allyson Carthon. She was also a cherished grandmother to six grand Children; Ashley, Andrew, Jermain, Alicia, Gmerice, Ange; grandniece, Johniece Walker, along with six great grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into raising a proud Christian family.

Affectionately known as Mother King, Gram Gram and Mom, She will be remembered for her kindness, faith, generosity, discipline, love of The Lord and her Church, but mostly, her Strength, Determination and Intellectual Leadership.

Nora was a highly revered Church Mother, founding member of the Pantry of Blessings Food Bank, Past President and dedicated member of the Missionaries, to include a dedicated member of the Care And Concerned.

Our Mom loved to sing and dance, from Aretha Franklin to Mahalia Jackson. She was a great cook and made the Best potato salad.  She enjoyed the beach, traveling, the outdoors and meeting new people. Her favorite saying was “When you know better you do better”.

Nora Aggie King was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers and three sisters.

Nora Aggie King passed away peacefully June 8, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

She leaves to mourn and honor her memories: her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. Also, to cherish her memory she leaves nearest and dearest to her heart, niece Shirley Ray and friends Mrs. Moncella McCree , Mrs. Bertha Brown.
