Patty Laverne Carrington

Quietly and peacefully, Patty Laverne Carrington, was called home by her Heavenly Father to find peace and comfort in His arms early Tuesday morning on April 28, 2026. Born on January 10, 1955, to Raymond and Bessie Carrington, who welcomed their beautiful third daughter, Patty grew to be very talkative and full of joy. She was predeceased by her parents, and several family members, but always walked boldly and faithfully before Him who kept her from falling.

Patty Carrington attended Oakwood Elementary School, Rosemont Junior High, Norview High School, Norfolk State University and received her Master of Science in Education from Old Dominion University. She was selected to be a Bachelor Benedict Debutante in 1973.  She began her teaching career in Bertie County, North Carolina when Norfolk State University brought down a team of new teachers. Lucille Bazemore and Lee Askew adopted Patty as her teaching career began.

After six years in North Carolina, Patty still aspired to be a famous actress or a star in a Broadway play, so she moved to California to share a stage with a famous actor or actress. While in California, something different happened. Always having a love for Christ, she made a conscious decision to accept Him in a newfound faith. After a visit from her sister Carolyn, she knew it was time to come home and serve her Lord more.

God truly blessed Patty when she came home because there were no closed doors. She found a job teaching, a new church home, and began working on her master’s degree. God opened one door after another and Patty was overjoyed to be home with her family who truly loved her and had missed her. She especially loved the time she was able to spend with her mother and her family.

As time would have it, Patty worked and served in several churches, sang in the choir and ushered at the door, and continued to study God’s Word as she increased her faithfulness to Him. Her final church home was Rehoboth Baptist Church under the Pastorship of Dr. James Allen, Jr. Patty had a heart of gold and was always willing to help and assist her family and friends. One of her greatest achievements was becoming an author of her book and cd entitled “Seasoned Psongs for the Soul” which were a collection of poems inspired by God.

Patty Carrington truly loved and cherished her family and they truly loved and cherished her. She is survived by her sisters, Linda Robinson, Carolyn McCoy (Joseph), Terry Wright (Hallowed, Jr.), Tracy Carrington; her brother, Raymond Carrington, Jr. (Carolyn); nieces, Chrylette Stevens (Ali), Trudy Whitfield (Nathan), Courtney Brown (Robert), Jasmine Carrington, Angela Klecker (John) Tia Carrington; nephew, Hallowed Wright, III (“Howie”); a special great niece, Aniya Carrington; a host of other great nieces, great-great nieces, best friends and AKA Sorors, Lee Askew and Hawletta Newsome and extended family and dear friends.
