The Life & Legacy of Rebecca Long Moore
On January 14, 2026, at Bon Secours Southampton Medical Center in Franklin, Virginia, Rebecca L. Moore departed this life and entered into eternal rest.
Rebecca was born on February 12, 1937, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late John Thomas Long and Bertha Long Joyner. She lived a life marked by love, service, humility, and quiet strength. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and a faithful friend whose presence brought comfort and encouragement to many.
Rebecca received her education in the Northampton County School System. Throughout her life, she was employed in several capacities and was widely known as a hardworking and nurturing woman. In every role she fulfilled, she demonstrated compassion, integrity, and a genuine concern for the well-being of others.
At an early age, Rebecca was baptized and united with Nebo Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and committed member until her health declined. She found great joy in caring for her grandchildren and in lovingly tending to children within her community.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas Long and Bertha Long Joyner; her husband, Ulysses Cooper; her son, Tony Cooper; her grandchildren, Takaree Allen and Jason Loyuk; and her brother, James “Foot” Tann.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her children: Jackie Manley (Clyde Sr.) of Conway, North Carolina; Ulysses Cooper (Aprill) of Como, North Carolina; Kenneth Cooper of Raleigh, North Carolina; Amy Hicks (Al) of Franklin, Virginia; and Freda Moore of Fort Washington, Maryland. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren—Michelle, Clyde Jr., Darius, Dario, Ondreea, Kenneth, Kelly, Indya, Aaron, Tierra, Tyreckka, Marcus, Kavon, Shanice, Noah, Torrey, and Courtnee; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and her goddaughter, Daphnie Christian
of Hopewell, Virginia.
In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Ola Mae Boone of Conway, North Carolina; Connie Christian of Hopewell, Virginia; and Theola Martin (Arthur Sr.) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her devoted home health aides, Rita, ZaNyiah, April, Farris, Shawnte, and Shakesha; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
