Rev. David Lester Holliday

Reverend David Lester Holliday, 76, of Virginia Beach, Virginia was called home to God’s Kingdom on August 3, 2024. He was born onFebruary 4, 1948 to Ethel Holliday and Levester Huntley.

Reverend Holliday received his early education in Greensboro, North Carolina Public Schools and advanced his studies at Norfolk State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree. He served two years active duty in the United States Navy and 24 years in the Naval Reserves. He was employed by Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 33 years as a licensed nuclear pipefitter and truck driver.

Reverend David L. Holliday accepted the call to ordained ministry in1974. He was appointed to his first parsonage charge at Saint Luke A.M.E., Danville, Virginia in 1975. His second charge was Holly Grove A.M.E.,Windsor, Virginia followed by Ebenezer A.M.E., Richmond, Virginia. His next charge was Bethel A.M.E., Onancock, Virginia for twelve years followed by Gaskins Chapel A.M.E., Savageville, Virginia. In May 2005 he was appointed to Centerville Chapel A.M.E., Chesapeake, Virginia where he retired after 18 years.

Reverend Holliday is predeceased in death by his mother, Ethel Holliday Carter; his father, Levester Huntley, Sr.; brother, Billy Holliday; sister, Eddy Holliday; and grandson, David Levelle Holliday.

Reverend Holliday, the most loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather is survived by his wife, Hattonia A. Holliday; one daughter, Shawn S. Allicock; two sons, Antawn J. Holliday (Olga E. Holliday); David L. Holliday (G. DaVette Holliday);two granddaughters, Sydney M. Holliday and Peyton S. Holliday; one grandson, Shaun A. Allicock; three great-grandsons, Ashton J. Allicock, Amir C. Allicock, and A’Siyah J. Allicock; two sisters, Sadie Boyd and Joretta Carter; two brothers, Ellis Boyd and Thomas Carter; cousin Peggy Newby (Keith Newby) and a host of nieces,nephews, cousins and inlaws.

His love for the Lord and serving others was seen in the way he lived and loved everyone in his presence. His sense of humor was his superpower as he always knew how to put a smile on your face and have you forget about all of your worries. It’s now his time to rest. He will truly be missed.
