Reverend Clifton M. Boyd

Reverend Clifton M. Boyd, a dedicated minister, father, grandfather, father -in-law, uncle, and friend, transitioned to be with the lord on August 4, 2025.   He was born in Princess Anne County (now Virginia Beach, Virginia) on March 30, 1935. Clifton leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication to family and community. 

He is predeceased by his wife of 60 years Sadie Boyd.  Also waiting to be reunited with Him in heaven is his only sister Velma Lee Boyd, and nephew Darryl Boyd.  To their union was one son, Anthony Alexander Boyd.   Cliff was educated in The Virginia Beach Public Schools and a graduate of Union Kempsville Princess Anne County Training School (PACTS). After accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior at a very early age, He later joined Morning Star Baptist Church.  Cliff was known to be a servant of God’s people.

He served as an Usher, The Deacons Ministry, and wherever he was needed.  Cliff loved To serve others.  He was later called to be a minister, and served at Morning Star for Many years under Reverend C.L. Parker and later under Reverend C.H. Williams. Cliff was a longshoreman, and member of the LOCAL 1240 International Longshoreman Union for many years, until his retirement. 

After retirement, Cliff went on to a long and dedicated career of community service.  The late Dr. Martin Luther often raised what he felt to be life’s most persistent and urgent question: What are you doing for others?    This question was at the core of Cliff’s life and being and became his lifelong ministry.  For many years, Cliff was known for helping others to overcome the difficulties of dealing with the Federal, State, and Local Agencies, helping them obtain their entitlements and benefits through what were for some very difficult and challenging situations. 

Cliff was also a coach and President of the Aragona Pembroke Recreation League.   He felt that being a role model mentoring young people would help guide them to be productive citizens and develop good character that would serve them well in life. He was also a member of the Prince Hall Masons, Washington Lodge #139. He was a 33rd degree Mason and the Grand Worshipful Master for the State of Virginia.

Cliff was always known for his impeccable dress, sharp suits, and outfits. He was “CLEAN” all the time!!

He is survived by his son, Anthony “Teddy” Boyd (Virginia); grandchildren, Antwon Walton, Reverend Shamika Wright and Shakenna Lawrence; great grandchildren, DeJanae Lawrence, Deveon Lyons, Ciara Lyons, Bobby Wright Jr., Christopher Wright, Tylaya Walton; great- great grandchildren, Alaina Barnes, Alyah Walton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
