Reverend Jesse Lewis Sr. Obituary

On April 26, 2020, the Reverend Jesse L. Lewis, Sr., 95, slipped away to his home in Glory to be with the Lord.

Rev. Jesse was born on October 12, 1924 in Arkansas to the late Henry and Amanda Lewis. He was the oldest of 11 children and the last to leave this plane.  He was raised and educated in Denver, Colorado. Jesse attended college while serving as a Seaman in the US Navy. He was a war veteran who served in WWII and the Korean War receiving the Victory Medal WWII and the Korean Service Medal with one engagement star.

While serving in the military, Jesse met the love of his life, Ms. Natalie Richardson and from their union came five children.

Rev. Jesse loved the Lord and served well. He was a member of the Zion Baptist Church, Hampton, VA under the leadership of Pastor Joshua King.  He also was active in Freemasonry and served as the Chaplain for York-Zedekiah Chapter in Yorktown.

He loved swimming and was a Furniture Restorer who specialized in a rare technique called Caning.

Besides his late parents, and his 10 siblings, Jesse was predeceased by one son, Wayne K. Lewis.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his wife of 60 years, Natalie Lewis; four children, Jesse Lewis, Jr., Maureen Lewis (Anthony), Jennifer Barksdale (David), Marc Lewis; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, his Zion Baptist Church family and a host of other relatives and friends.
