Richard Clements Obituary

Honoring The Life Of

Richard Lee Clements, Sr.

     July 6, 1939 - November 8, 2024

"How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!" (Psalm 133:1)

Richard Lee Clements, Sr., (AKA-Jip) was the son of the late Arthur McKinley Clements and the late Gertrude Brown-Clements. He was born in Brunswick County, VA, on July 6, 1939 and entered his peaceful rest on Friday, November 8, 2024 at the age of 85.

Richard attended public schools in Brunswick County. At an early age, he joined Good Hope Baptist Church in Blackridge, VA until relocating to Norfolk, VA then later to Chesapeake, VA.

Richard was united in holy matrimony to Alice Lee Maye on August 13, 1959. To this union, four children were born. He took great care of his wife “Sapphire” until his last breath. Richard was the epitome of a good husband, family man, and dear friend. Jip’s big smiles and chubby cheeks highlighted his joyful presence and sweet personality. He was a very supportive, hard-working employee at the Coca Cola plant and Wilson Trucking Company until his retirement. After retirement, he spent his better days hunting (becoming a sharpshooter and outstanding rock thrower) with his friends and brothers, watching wrestling and baseball, celebrating milestones, and enjoying life with “Sapphire”, the nickname he gave his wife.

His sharp taste in suits, hats, and ties nominated him best dressed of all his brothers. His loved ones knew which seat he sat at the kitchen table. On the floor laid his chicken crumbs with his jaws full of his Hardee’s chicken. Jip will be missed for his love, compassion, respect, memories, and some good old-fashioned gossip.

Preceding him in death are his son, Arthur Clements; daughter, Brenda Faye Clements; stepdaughter, Lendora Maye; grandson, Alphonso Clements; sisters; Lillian Seward, Margaret Clements, Virginia Harrison, Queen Boone; brothers, Johnnie, Sydnor Sr., William, Arthur Jr., Benjamin Sr., and Curtis Sr.

Left to cherish his memories, a devoted wife and best friend, Mrs. Alice Maye-Clements; children, Richard, Jr., Oscar Clements (Bene' Robinson) both of Chesapeake, VA; grandsons, Stephon Barcliff, Isaiah Richard Clements; granddaughters, Patricia Cleaver, Nickell Clements, Kita Pate; great-grandchildren, Chloe Dobbs, Grayson Pate, Stephon Barcliff Jr., Stephanie, Zoie Holloway;  three sisters, Ruth Hood, Mary Billups, both of Norfolk, VA, Velma Burgess of Seat Pleasant, MD; a devoted friend, Willie C. Scott; the love and gratitude of the Maye Family; Phyllis Price and a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

"A family doesn't need to be perfect; it just needs to be united." - Unknown
