Robert Weldon Robinson 68, affectionately known as “Square Bear” departed his life on earth to the Kingdom of Heaven on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 10:45pm at his home in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 68 years old. Robert was born October 10, 1956, at Norfolk Community Hospital to Cleopatra Williamson Robinson and Harry Lee Robinson, Sr.
Robert attended Betty F. Williams Elementary, Virginia Beach Jr. High, First Colonial High and Kempsville High School where he graduated as an honor student. Robert furthered his education after high school at Howard University, Wayne University and transferred to Virginia State University where he graduated class of 1978 with honors. Soon after graduation he came back home and started a career at Norfolk Naval Base as a Calibration/Engineer Technician.
Robert played sports in school and throughout the Seatack Community. Robert known as “Square Bear” played basketball and football at Virginia Beach Jr High and First Colonial High School. Also, with his Seatack friends at the Old Seatack Community Center, the Old Seatack school, Seatack Park and wherever they traveled to play throughout Virginia Beach. Robert was a “die hard” Pittsburgh Steeler fan and NBA fan.
Robert met the love of his life Shelia “Rooster” Spellman Robinson when they were teenagers. Robert and Shelia got married on June 20, 1988, until Shelia’s death on April 13, 2013. Robert loved his beloved Shelia, children and grandson. Robert and Shelia were so happy when their grandson Machi Robinson was born. Robert always told stories about how he met his beloved Shelia and the Seatack Community. Robert always had that special smile on his face.
Robert leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Troy Lee Robinson, Ramsey Lewis Robinson of Virginia Beach, VA; one daughter, Iman Kamilah Robinson of Virginia Beach, VA; one grandson, Machi Robinson of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Hakimah Muhammad of Maryland; one brother, Harry “HL” Lee Robinson (Carol) of Pennsauken, NJ; two nieces, Kenya Robinson of Norfolk, VA, Jihan Robinson Spellman (Carl) of Sicklerville, NJ; one nephew, Elijah Robinson (Anna) of Syracuse, NY; one great niece, Keonda Robinson of Norfolk, Virginia; one aunt in law, “Aunt Mickey” Robinson of Philadelphia, PA; three sister in laws, Darlene Spellman Hines & Sylvia “Mush” Spellman of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Annette Spellman Hook of Norfolk, Virginia; two best friends, Otis Cooper, AL Savage; good friend, Ronnie Ford; and a host of cousins, friends, the Williamson and Robinson Family.
Robert is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shelia “Rooster” Spellman Robinson; parents, Cleopatra Williamson Robinson and Harry Lee Robinson; a special aunt, Fannie Robinson; his mother and father-in-law, Missionary Ella Louise Spellman and brother, Sylvester “Duke” Spellman.
