Ruth A. Day was born on February 23, 1937, in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, to the late Elmira Allen. She departed this life on July 24, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.
Ruth met her beloved husband, William Day, in Virginia Beach, where they later made their home and raised their family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness and grace. Throughout her life, Ruth was known for her vibrant spirit and warm heart. She found joy in music, eating seafood, bingo nights, watching movies, and spending time shopping. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Day; her mother, Elmira Allen; her daughter, Doreen Allen; and her brother, Oscar Lee Allen.
Ruth’s memory will be carried on by her seven children, Jerome Allen (Brenda) of Delaware, Regina Ann Day of Philadelphia, PA, Patricia Mackey of Maryland, Gloria Bennett of Chesapeake, VA, Prescott Day of Virginia Beach, VA, and Janet Day and Sandra Day of Philadelphia, PA. She also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her deeply.
Ruth A. Day will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her love of family, and the warmth she brought into every space she entered. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return.
