Mrs. Sandra Ann Smith of 682 Orangewood Drive, Virginia Beach Va, transitioned to the after life on September 14, 2024. “Memo” as she was better known by her grandchildren was born on June 28, 1955 in Memphis Tn. She was the second oldest of (6) children and was a 1974 graduate of Munford High School in Munford, Tn. After graduating from high school, she immediately joined the U.S Navy where she served at many overseas shore duty stations to include; Naples IT, Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Yokosuka JP, London England. She reported for duty in London in June 1984 and on September 6th 1985, she met and fell in love with her future husband (Mr. Charles Smith). In March 1988 she married Charles and remained married to him until her departure from life on 14 September 2024. They were together a total of over 39 years.
In addition, she served aboard (2) Naval Vessels, one in Charleston SC and the last one in Norfolk Va. In June 1994 she retired from the Navy after 20 successful years of honorable service as an E-6. She was a veteran of both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars. After she retired from active duty, she continued her service to the country serving as a Civil Servant where she committed another 15 years of service to our country at Navy Regional Mail Center, Norfolk Va before retiring for the last time.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Randolph and June Etheridge both of Munford, Tn.
She is survived by her husband (Charles), (2) daughters, and (1) son; Kishori (Elijah) Marie Dorsey of Virginia Beach, Va, Kendra Renee Smith of Norfolk, Va, and son Charles Robert Alexander Smith of Virginia Beach, Va. In addition she has (14) grandchildren; TJ, EJ, Christina, Zaniyiah, Jazlyn, Asiah, Nahla, Jaslena, Ziana, Zoey, Zaire, Kamrin, Remi, and Zaine. She also leaves behind (2) sisters and (2) brothers; Vickie (Mike) of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mary (John) of Memphis, Tn, Bobby (Molly) of Bolivar, Tn, and David of Memphis, Tn.; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
