Shelby Charisse Bowman, 49, was called home to be with the Lord on July3,2024. She was born December18,1974 in Brooklyn, NY to Maggie M. Simms (Mother), and the late Derek P. Hatcher (Father).
Shelby received her education in New York City Public Schools. Shelby relocated with her children to Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2003. Our beloved Shelby was known for her unwavering dedication to her children, family, and friends. Shelby's greatest joy was spending quality time with her loved ones. She was always lending a hand to help someone. She was a great baker and loved cooking from her book filled with recipes from her grandmother-the late Minnie Bell Simms. Her favorite artist was Tupac. She loved singing, dancing, reading, playing spades, and walking on the beach. Her infectious smile, boundless energy, and genuine kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. Shelby was a great daughter, mother, wife, niece, cousin and friend. Shelby's life was a testament of strength, determination and resilience as she battled a long journey with cancer. She never gave up hope and continued to fight until the very end.
Shelby was proceeded in death by her grandson, Da'kiada. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Sidney Bowman; loving sons, Jelani, Dakari, Damari, Uriah; other children, Sidney, Shaquana, Khamel, Niya, Sidnei; grandchildren, Kailani, Kai'lyn, Dariah; grand children through marriage, Celestine, Kyrie, Blessing; beloved mother, Maggie; father figure, Keith Gills; great aunt, Annie Rae, aunt Shirley ,aunt Ruby, uncle Mordecai; four siblings and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
