On April 24, 2023, Vessie Mae Gatlin Knight went home to be with the Lord in all his glory.
Vessie was born on June 6, 1926, to the late Anthony and Ida Gatlin in Princess Anne County, Virginia. She was educated in the Princess Anne County school system. Many years ago, Vessie joined Union Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W. Samuel Walton. Vessie loved cooking and baking. Her specialty was her hot homemade rolls. In addition to being a great cook, she was the neighborhood hairstylist. Vessie was the matriarch of her family, and she was loved by many.
Besides her parents, Vessie was predeceased by her husband, Willis Knight, Sr.; son, Willis Knight, Jr.; four brothers and five sisters.
Vessie leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughter, Darlene Knight of Va. Beach, VA; three grandchildren, Breon Knight of Va. Beach, VA, Bobby J. Knight and Brandon Edwards both of Charleston, SC, Caisha Knight of Bluffton, SC; daughter-in-law, Levern Edwards Knight; three brother-in-laws; two sister-in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
