Celebrating the Life and Legacy of William Haney
William Haney, beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on 9/15/2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those around him. William was born to Patricia Hall Bell and Richard Haney. William was known for his compassionate spirit, generous heart, and one-liner jokes, notably “No Shade No Tea.”
Born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia, William graduated from Oscar Smith High School with honors. He immediately enrolled at Virginia State University and completed 3 years on the dean's list. William sang in the award-winning Gospel Choir and Concert Choir at VSU.
Throughout his life, he touched many with his infectious smile and gentle demeanor. William was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether volunteering at the local Bingo Hall or supporting friends and family in times of need.
William’s professional career was marked by integrity and hard work. William worked in food and beverage for over 30 years. He was respected by colleagues and loved by those who had the privilege of working alongside him. Outside of work, William enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with his family.
William is survived by his siblings, Saran Day (Chahly), George Bell Jr (Toshiba), Sharon Covil Hughes (Kerry), Don Juan Covil, Dionne Covil, 19 nieces and nephews, and special cousins Keywanna Askew (Deangelo) and Samuel Bloodworth (Ebony) Best friends Tabb, Gary, Val and Lisa. William is predeceased by his mother, Patricia Hall Bell, father Richard Haney, George Bell (stepfather), sister Sherry Monroe and brother George Covil.
A memorial service to celebrate William’s life will be on 9/25/25, viewing from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and Funeral services on 9/26/2025, 12:00 pm at Beach Funeral & Cremation Services, 4456 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia, 23462.
William Haney will be dearly missed, but his spirit will remain a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to know him.
