William Sivels Sr. Obituary

William C. Sivels Sr., 90, peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

William, the youngest son of nine children, was born in Chesapeake, VA to Claude Sivels and Minnie Cuffee-Sivels. He was educated in the Chesapeake public school system. William began working at a very young age on farms until he began working at Portsmouth Salvage Junkyard. As a young adult he was employed by NORSHIPCO, Norfolk Shipbuilding and Drydock Corporation where he worked as a rigger for 31 years. He was beloved by his fellow workers who knew him by the name of Po’ Boy. He was a devoted employee and was rarely absent from his job.

Deacon William Sivels believed in the Lord all of his life. He was originally a member of Centerville Church until be joined the United House of Prayer, Hickory in the mid 1960’s. He served as proud member of the Deacon Board for more than 30 years supporting them in fundraising activities and house competitions to raise money for various events. If you asked, you could always get one more dollar from Deacon Sivels. His love for his family, the church, and his job monopolized most of his time.

William Sivels was a sharp dresser and he loved to farm, hunt and fish.  He took his time selecting his outfits for every occasion and he had a look about him even when he was working in the fields. He loved his hats. William was also an active member of the Masonic Temple, W. G. Alexander Lodge #289 and a Hunting Club in Virginia.

His beloved wife Esther Missouri Sivels, two daughters, Teresa Brown Davis and Doris Lovan Shields, preceded him in death.

His memories will forever by cherished by his children, Katrina Ortiz (Edmond) of Missouri, William Sivels Jr. (Karen), David Sivels (Jo-Ann),  and James Allen Sivels (Late Patricia Wright-Sivels) of Missouri; host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, god children, relatives and friends.
