Willie Carney, Jr., also known as “Snook”, 89, was born to the late Willie Sr. and Lossie Carney in Edgecombe County, NC on January 19, 1936. Willie entered into eternal rest on February 4, 2025.
Willie was educated in the Edgecombe County public school system. When he was a young man, he moved with his family to Virginia Beach, VA. Willie was gainfully employed for Virginia Beach public schools for 10 years and then 25 years for the City of Virginia Beach.
In his spare time, he loved to play cards and had a passion for automobiles.
Besides his parents, Willie was predeceased by one son, Raymond Carney; three brothers, Joseph, Jarvis and James Carney; one sister, Lenora Kea Knight; and brothers-in-law, Mazerine Lewis, Willie Palmer, and James Knight.
Willie leaves to cherish his fond memories, his beloved wife, Mary Alice Brinson Carney; four children, Dennis Carney (Angie), David Carney, Alice Carney, Tonya Carney; one special granddaughter, LaQuanna Carney “Pookie”; six sisters, Vernida Council (James), Selma Lewis both of Philadelphia, PA, Martha Carney of Florida, Louisa Carney of Princeville, NC, Fannie Mae Lee (William) of Greenville, NC, Lossie Bell Palmer of Virginia Beach, VA; one brother, Earl Lee Carney (Freadena) of Philadelphia, PA; 23 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; a special caretaker, Carlton Braxton Boyd; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
