Yvonne Marie Willie-Armstrong
Yvonne Marie Willie-Armstrong was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia (formerly Princess Anne County) to the late Emuel C. Willie and Vivian Joyner Willie. She was the third child and the youngest daughter of the family and was affectionately known as “Doll Baby.” She was raised in the Burton Station neighborhood of Virginia Beach, surrounded by a close-knit and loving extended family on both the Joyner and Willie sides. She peacefully slipped away on January 14, 2026.
Doll Baby attended Virginia Beach’s public segregated school system and graduated from Union Kempsville High School in 1966. She later earned an associate degree from Tidewater Community College. Yvonne devoted many years of service working various Finance and Accounting positions for the City of Virginia Beach in the Child Support Enforcement Office and later with the United States Coast Guard as an Account Specialist. She retired in 2014, grateful for the opportunity to serve her country.
A lifelong woman of faith, Doll Baby grew up in and remained an active member of The United House of Prayer in Virginia Beach. She especially enjoyed serving on the Young Adult Usher Board and singing in various church choirs.
Doll Baby was the undeniable heart and joy of every gathering. She delighted in both hosting and attending Crystal parties, Tupperware parties, card parties, and more. While cooking was not her favorite pastime, she was well known for her signature dessert—Watergate salad—which was always present at family events. She loved music and dancing and was often the last one on the dance floor, happily showing off her hand-dancing and line dancing moves.
Family meant everything to her, and she was at her happiest when surrounded by loved ones and daily activity. As her health declined, she moved in with her eldest son and his family, where she was lovingly cared for until transitioning to memory care.
Doll Baby leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, LaTascha Willie Foster (Greg); her sons, Dale Armstrong, Jr., Juan Armstrong, and Michael Armstrong; one sister, Juanita Wiggins (Edward), and her brothers Emuel Willie (Carolyn), and Reginald Willie, Sr. (Joyce). She was a devoted grandmother to 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. All who lovingly called her “Grandma Doll”. She will also be deeply missed by a host of beloved cousins and dear girlfriends.
